What is Canadian Geothermal Students Days (CGSD)?

Canadian Geothermal Students' Days began in 2019 at L'Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS Quebec), when a small team of passionate graduate students wanted to gather the community and promote geothermal studies in Canada.

Since 2019, the conference has expanded to include undergraduate students, industry, government, and community leaders from around the country, with the goal of facilitating multi-disciplinary collaboration and networking in the field of geothermal energy.

In 2025, CGSD will be offered for the first time in Atlantic Canada at UNB Fredericton August 28-30th. We hope to see you there!

Experiential Trip: August 28th

Join us on August 28th for an excursion to Saint John, New Brunswick. After touring the geothermal pump room at our sister campus UNB Saint John with Canadian engineering firm MCW Maricor, we'll stop for lunch at the Area 506 harbourfront "Container Village" and tour several "Stonehammer Geopark" UNESCO Heritage sites with local geoscientist Catrina Russell. Please note registration is required to participate!

Meet the CGSD 2025 Team

Co-Organizer

Rocelle Mendoza

Rocelle worked for eight years at a geothermal plant in the Philippines before relocating to Canada to pursue her MSc in geophysics at the University of New Brunswick. Rocelle is passionate about shallow geophysical techniques and long-term geothermal resource management.

Joseph DeLuca

Joseph spoke at CGSD 2024 and became enthused with the idea of hosting the conference for the first time in Atlantic Canada at the University of New Brunswick, where he recently received his BSc Hons. in Earth Sciences. Joseph is passionate about unconvential and deep geothermal in sedimentary basins.

Catrina Russell

A talented and passionate geoscience communicator, Catrina is a University of New Brunswick Earth Sciences alumni. A long-time collaborator with the UNESCO Heritage Site "Stonehammer Geopark," Catrina will share stories and knowledge during the August 28th CGSD excursion to Saint John.
